Between 2018 and 2019, SenLinYu published Manacled chapter by chapter on Archive of Our Own. The story is set in an alternate Harry Potter universe where Voldemort wins, Harry Potter is dead, and Hermione is forced to survive in a brutal dystopia.

What makes Manacled truly remarkable is its nonlinear structure. The narrative is told through fragmented timelines and flashbacks, slowly piecing together the bigger picture. At first, it feels unbearably dark—so much so that readers might wonder how it could ever become a romance. Yet, as the story unfolds, the threads of a profound love story emerge.

Dramione, Darkness, and Visual Storytelling

At its heart, Manacled is a Dramione romance—a story about Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy. It is not an easy romance, but one filled with trauma, war, and devastating choices. This complexity is exactly what captivated thousands of readers across the globe.

Adding to the immersive experience were the atmospheric illustrations by Avendell, which visually brought the story’s haunting tone to life. For many, this combination of powerful writing and evocative artwork made Manacled unforgettable.

From Fanfiction to Original Novel: The Alchemist / Alchemised
